Alleged kidnapping: Police arrest 10 suspects, others in Jigawa

The Police Command in Jigawa says it has arrested ten suspects for alleged kidnapping and other offences in the state.

The Police Commissioner, Emmanuel Ekot announced this while parading the suspects in Dutse on Tuesday.

He said the police arrested four suspects, aged between 24 and 30, in connection with alleged kidnapping of one Alhaji Ahmadu Garba, on Nov. 11 at about 12:30 a.m. at Kwadabe village in Kiyawa Local Government Area of the state.

Ekot said the command’s Special Investigation Bureau (SIB) acting on credible information trailed and succeeded in arresting the suspects.

“On interrogation, the suspects voluntarily confessed to have committed the offence in collaboration with one suspect in Kwadabe village Kiyawa LGA, who was also trailed and arrested,” he said.

The suspects, he said, have been charged to court.

The CP said that operatives of the command on Jan. 4, arrested two other suspects over alleged criminal conspiracy, illegal possession of fire arms and belonging to a gang group.

“The suspects, aged 40, reside at Dabigal Jioro settlement in Ringim LGA,” he said, adding that the police recovered a locally fabricated barrette pistol with seven round of 12/12 cartridges from the suspects.

“On interrogation, the suspects could not give satisfactory account of the fire arms recovered from them,” he said.

He said that one other suspect, aged 35, has been arrested on Jan. 6, in possession of locally fabricated pistol when the police raided Tura Kaya and Maikambu settlements of Ringim LGA.

“On interrogation, the suspect failed to give satisfactory account of the fire arms recovered from him.

“The suspect is strongly suspected to be a member of criminal gang of thieves terrorising Ringim, Taura and Garki environs,” he said.

The CP added that two other suspects, aged 25, had been arrested over alleged robbery at Hadejia and Dutse LGAs.

He said the police arrested one of the suspects on Jan. 8 after he attempted to rob a shopkeeper in Hadejia town.

“There was a report of attempted robbery by one Sani Ali of Dubantu quartets, Hadejia LGA, that on the same date, at about 6 p.m., that the suspect came to his shop with intent to buy salt.

“The suspect, after the complainant told him that he has no salt, went out quietly and came back later with his locally made pistol.

“He pointed the gun directly at him and asked for money or else he will shoot him to death,” he said.

Ekot said that the operatives also arrested one suspect on Jan. 13, after he, alongside two others now at large, robbed motorists along Army Barrack on Yargaba road, Dutse.

“On Jan. 13, a patrol team along Army Barrack, Yargaba road came across group of hoodlums numbering about three with dangerous weapons robbing motorists, on sighting the patrol vehicle, they took to thier heels,” he said.

He said the patrol team, with the assistance of security volunteer group, trailed the footsteps of the suspects where one of the suspects, a resident of Dogon Marke village was arrested.

He said a handbag containing N14,500; a mobile phone and mp3, suspected to belong to the robbery victims had been recovered from the suspect.

The CP further disclosed that the operatives of the command apprehended a suspected drug peddler on Jan. 14, at Dundubus village.

He said the suspect, aged 25 and resident of neighbouring Gamoji village in Gaya LGA of Kano State, had been arrested in possession of narcotic substances.

He listed the drugs and other items to include 400 pieces of exole tablet, 91 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis, two rubber solutions, four charms and N16, 900.

The CP said the cases had been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for discreet investigation and prosecution.

While reiterating commitment of the command to protect lives and property, Ekot urged residents to partner with the police in the fight against crimes in the state.
